Just Horsing Around!

I left New Orleans Saturday Morning at 5:45 in the morning to head to Camp.  Yes, 5:45 AM! For those who know me...I'm not really the Camping kind of Gal.  In fact I HATE the Outdoors.  Sweat, Bugs, Snakes, and Mud...I'd much rather have spent the morning Sleeping in, making Breakfast, then spending the day working on my new Craft Project...but no it was off to Camp...

The Girl Scout Council that I work for has three Camps.  Several Weeks ago I went on a Staff Meeting to Camp Whispering Pines, but Saturday it was off to St. Francisville, LA (way past Baton Rouge) to Camp Marydale for the "Early Bird Camp Day"!

The Early Bird Camp Day was an incentive for all the girls who reregistered for the new year early and I was working the Rodeo. I would have preferred the Craft Station or maybe monitoring the Swimming Pool, but the Rodeo wasn't half bad.

I got to spend the day with our "Wranglers" - Girl Scouts who devote at least a weekend every month to coming up and helping out with the horses. They are also the Counselors for our Horse Camps during the summer!

The Wrangler Girls did an Awesome job entertaining all our young Scouts who had come up for the Day at Camp with Jumps and Barrel Races.

And of Course there was time for the Girls to Pet the Horses at the end and do a short Barn Tour!

I know I complained and was aggravated that I had to get up so early, but I ended up having a great time with the Wranglers and the other Little Girls at Camp Marydale! What an awesome way to spend my Saturday!  Did I mention that I love my job?

  1. Hopefully you still work for this council, but do you know if any of the camps would be available to rent out for a small wedding? I live in Baton Rouge and am trying to find a nice, outdoor venue. I went to Camp Marydale as a girl scout when I was younger, but I do not remember if it is open year round. If not, I would love to consider renting it out during the off-season.
