The plan for today had been to hit the road bight and early this morning to head to Grand Isle, for the Island Aid Music Festival. Every year Grand Isle hosts a "Tarpon Rodeo"! No there are no fish being ridden, just a big fishing tournament I guess...But the Oil Spill put a little damper on that this year, so instead Grand Isle decided to host a Music Festival on their Beach. I felt like this was not only going to be a way to show our support for these communities hardest hit by the Oil Spill, but a great way to explore the island and see some quality musical acts - LeAnn Rimes and Three Dog Night are the headliners!
But now this Tropical Storm Bonnie has thrown a wrench into our plans...Grand Isle's a long way (2 hours each way) to drive only for this festival to get rained out...Its apparently still on, but with the clouds that are beginning to cover New Orleans, I can only imagine how bad it is down there...
So Zach and I will be forced to show our support another way, and Abita's SOS beer looks like a good way to do it! The SOS (Save Our Shores) Pilsner hit the shelves this week in Louisiana grocery stores, but apparently there are plans to have a wider distribution. I wasn't particularity crazy about the flavor...its a little bitter for me, but I love the bottles - over sized beer bottles with the SOS logo made up of Louisiana Sea Life - Pelicans, Fish, Shrimp, Clams - too cute! And a great commemorative piece.
