Don't report us...but Zach and I have been watching our illegally downloaded episodes of Treme all evening. And I have to say, I LOVE this Show.
De-Myth of the night - Mr and Mrs. Newlywed in New Orleans don't always live a life of Bars, Restaurants and Social Outings...we watch ALOT of television. But I have to say, Treme is probably the Best Show that we watch. It's Deep, It's Candid, It's Real, It's New Orleans.
I know this is one of those things that as a New Orleans Newcomer, I shouldn't say, but I wish I had experienced Katrina. The city before the storm, the storm and the resilience of the city in the aftermath. Seeing the city today and knowing what it went through, I am utterly amazed. Treme gives me that look into what the city went through, shows me the pain, shows me the struggles, but shows me the resilience that allowed for the reNew Orleans. Treme has been very popular nationally, but not surprisingly has received alot of criticism locally. Many say that that the shows depictions are inaccurate or too stereotypical. I feel like it has been eye opening. Clearly I knew about the physical destruction, but had never really stopped to think about many of the issues that the show exposes: the financial burden felt by so many when insurance coverage was denied, the quasi-martial law, the logistical nightmares, the displacement, the corruption, the trails of trying to regain normalcy. Seeing Treme makes me appreciate this City and where it is today so much more than I could have ever imagined.
