Simply Decadent!

Exact numbers have yet to be released, but Estimates say that their were nearly 125,000 people gathered in New Orleans to celebrate the 39th Annual Southern Decadence...
We were Five of them.

For the Labor Day, two of my best friends from Clemson: Kate and Amanda came to visit, along with Kate's High School Pal Sarah.

On Friday and Saturday we had a great time exploring Magazine Street, Going to Superior Grill for too many Margaritas, Breakfasting at Ruby Slipper, Cheering our Clemson Tigers on to a win at Cooter Browns, Experiencing Jacque~Imos, Happy Houring at Carrollton Station, Dancing the Night Away at Tipitinas and Closing out at F&M's.  But Sunday was the Highlight...

In keeping with this years theme of Leather and Feathers, Sunday morning, while most NOLA locals were on thier way to Mass, we were costuming up and getting ready to head to the French Quarter for the Southern Decadence Parade.

A couple of Screwdrivers at St. Charles Tavern for breakfast and I was ready to hit the Quarter.  Disappointtingly, very few of the Parade-goers costumed for the festivities, but we rocked it, and after the parade had dispersed our krewe of 5 Straight Chicks became quite a photo opt for many amoung the crowds of skantily clad gay men.

We made friends with many who had traveled to New Orleans for what has begun to be known as "Gay Mardi Gras" - Many Astonishingly Good Looking Guys, A Couple "Bears" (as I have come to learn is the lingo for the Fat and Hairy Gay Guys), A Few Trannies, And One Absolutely Hilarious Lesbian.

We met our Lesbian Freind when we "Axed her about her Vajayjay" as her Tshirt suggested.  She then proceeded to give us each a "gift" of a lock of ... "Her" ...Neather Region Hair... It was obviously cuttings from a curly black wig, but hilarious none the less.

After giving Me, Laura, Kate and Sarah our gifts, she had something special for Amanda...Saints Edition Pubes...they were a Limited Edition - she only made five - and they were the same wig cuttings but with a little gold bow tied around them...how tender!

We Laughed, We Danced, and We Drank ourselves into a great Day.  Admittedly one of the most ridiculous things I have ever experienced, Southern Decadence is already on my Calendar for next year...and next time I might acutally spring for the All Access VIP pass and make a full weekend of the partying instead of just the one day!

  1. Hi! I was in New Orleans this past weekend too! I think we were at all the same places, and I bet we ran into each other!! Your Friday and Saturday, are literally exactly what we did too!! I stumbled upon your blog looking at NOLA things! I think we have a ton of things in common, my boyfriend just started his first year! I am looking to move to NOLA in January, I would love any advice you have from a fellow SC transplant!
