Sooo, I didn't make it to Dave Matthews. It is a bit of a sore subject...I don't really wanna talk about it...but I will, just as a bit of therapeutic venting.
Usually I have control of my schedule, I've been working alot of late nights, so I have the flexibility to skip out of work a little early if I need to, which is exactly what I had hoped to do on Thursday before the NFL Kickoff event. However, Thursday at work we had a Staff Meeting. I hate Staff Meetings, especially since this is the Membership Staff's busiest time of the year. I hate sitting around and singing Kumbaya, holding hands, talking about our personal strengths and weaknesses. Literally would rather have my fingernails pulled out. But I work for a Non-profit, so I realize this BS is pretty par for the course. Needless to say, this took significantly longer than I had anticipated. Hoping that Zach could head on down to the Quarter and secure us a good spot, I had him go down at 2. When I finally got out of my meeting at 3 I hopped in the car and headed home to change.
I noticed that while I was driving home it was getting pretty overcast, by the time I was at our apartment it was pouring down rain. I ran into the apartment, threw off my now wet clothes, put on my Saints attire, grabbed an umbrella and ran out to catch the Streetcar. The only lucky moment of the evening was that a streetcar was coming right as I ran out of the apartment so that A. I didn't have to wait to catch one and B. I didn't have to stand in the torrential down pour waiting...
So I had made it to the Streetcar where I was nice and dry (well not dry, but able to begin drying), and headed to the Quarter...perfect right? False. Big FALSE! It began Storming really bad: Thunder, Lightening, Blinding rain...and then it stopped. No, not the weather, the Streetcar.
So apparently if the electricity goes out at the Streetcar Barn up at Carrollton Station, electricity goes out along the whole line...and stops the streetcars from running. Assuring us that things would be fixed soon, the Streetcar driver told us to just sit tight and wait. I mean clearly? I definitely didn't want to get out while it was monsooning outside! So we waited 20 minutes...then 30...then 45...At this point the rain is starting to slack off and the Streetcar driver informs us that the city was sending buses to get us. They did...and after 2 of those passed by stuffed with other Saints fans trying to make their way to the Quarter, I decided to take a cab with some of the other disgruntled streetcar riders.
But before we finally found one that was empty, Zach called to tell me that Dave Matthews had already started playing, and despite that fact that we had the special access wristbands, he couldn't see anything because of the way the NFL had elected to set up the stage. Yah it looked pretty having it set up in Jackson Square with the Cathedral in the background, but because of all of the trees, it was impossible to see anything!
Realizing that I had missed the opportunity to see Dave Matthews, and was going to have a hell of a time getting down to the French Quarter, I decided to stay up town and drown my sorrows at Superior Grill over some way too strong Margaritas. At least that way I could see both Dave and the Game. I was joined later by Zach, Noel, Matt and others...so the day ended up on a positive note, but I still didn't get to see Dave.
