Cork Trivets!

Zach and I drink a lot of wine, not an unhealthy amount, but we definitely enjoy our evening glass...or bottle...and have TONS of Wine Corks sitting around. I don't have a lot of time to craft these days, but I came across this super easy project while perusing online...Wine Cork Trivets!

I've tried to utilize the bottles in different ways (Wine Bottle Window Treatment and Wine Bottle Mantle), but have been looking for neat ways to use the corks!  I had thought about saving them to make Christmas Garland, but I think that would be a little too rustic? to go along with my beautiful glass ornaments...

Anyways my parents are coming into town next week and I was doing a little cleaning and got very frustrated by my current iron trivets...they were a pretty pewter when we got them and now they are dingy and black.  I tried soaking them and just couldn't get them to come clean...which is when I remembered reading about the Wine Cork Trivets!  The directions called for hose clamps (whatever those are...) but I used embroidery hoops and they turned out beautiful!

I set the rings on a plate and started lining up corks (I only used real cork...not the fake ones, I was a little worried those might melt?).  Once you get the the middle you have to put a little elbow grease into mashing the corks into the rings but you need to make sure they are tightly packed so that none of the corks creep out! I think they look great and will be super effective!
